Oscars 2018: All the best and worst looks from the red carpet

It’s been said that the Oscars are prom night and every other red carpet event leading up to them are a mere homecoming dance. And never does that analogy ring more true than on the red carpet.

While every other event allows for more casual cocktail attire, there’s no question that the Oscars are a black-tie affair. Glam squads get to work early in the morning the day of the event, whipping the stars into camera-ready shape, while designers often wait with bated breath to see if their looks were chosen among the dozens that are sent to celebrity stylists.

Unlike the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs before them, it has been decided that the glitterati will not stick to a dress code in honour of the Time’s Up movement this year.

“We are not an awards show protest group,” Ava DuVernay, director and one of the movement’s organizers said. “There’s a moment that’s been carved out.”

Similarly, Shonda Rhimes, television producer and Time’s Up co-organizer, said the initiative “was launched on the red carpet but was never intended to live there.”

In fact, politics and the sexual allegations that have plagued Hollywood will take a back seat on this red carpet, opening up the event to celebrate film and of course, fashion.
