Saskatchewan Rush head coach and general manager Derek Keenan has developed a reputation as a savvy deal-maker.

Keenan made another move on Monday, trading two draft picks to the Rochester Knighthawks for National Lacrosse League veteran Dan Dawson.

The 17-year veteran said he wasn’t expecting the move but is excited to join the Rush.

“To fall into this opportunity is a perfect fit for me and I’m just looking to contribute anyway I can,” Dawson said.

“This team, with the leadership group, with the coaching staff, the ownership – the culture they’ve put together is second to none.”

Dawson is bringing an impressive resume with him to Saskatchewan.

He is one of the league’s all-time leader scorers – he ranks fourth in assists (802) and fifth in goals (469) and points (1,271).

But it’s more than his scoring touch that Dawson is bringing to the Rush. He’s embracing the move and said he still has something to prove.

“Everyone’s like ‘you’ve got nothing to prove.’ I’ve got lots to prove,” Dawson stated.

“I want to still say I can compete at a high level at this age.”

Rush Nation will have a chance to cheer on Dawson when Saskatchewan takes on the Vancouver Stealth at home on Saturday.
