UPDATE: The 2019 NHL Entry Draft will take place at Rogers Arena in Vancouver on June 21 and 22, the league announced Wednesday. It will come as the team celebrates its 50th anniversary. Vancouver will also host the 2019 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships.
The 2019 NHL Entry Draft is going to happen in Vancouver, and an official announcement is expected on Wednesday.
The news of the draft coming to Vancouver was confirmed by Global BC’s Squire Barnes last week.
But today, the Vancouver Canucks and the NHL said they would have a special announcement on Wednesday, with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman in attendance.
With the draft in town, one of the top five picks could be Vancouver Giants defenceman Bowen Byram, who also helped lead Canada to a silver medal at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in 2017.
Byram has 23 points in 50 games this season.

The event would mark the first time that Vancouver has hosted the draft since 2006, when it happened at GM Place, now known as Rogers Arena.
The St. Louis Blues drafted Erik Johnson first overall that year; the Canucks took Michael Grabner 14th overall.
