High-ranking Okanagan RCMP officers embrace pink in battle against bullying

Some Okanagan RCMP brass will be wearing pink on Wednesday.

That’s National Pink Shirt Day when wearing the bright colour helps raise awareness against bullying.

“As police officers we often see the negative effects of bullying both in our schools and in the community,” says Superintendent Jim McNamara of the North Okanagan RCMP.

McNamara and RCMP Inspector Gord Stewart are trading their usual white work shirts for pink ones Wednesday to show support for the anti-bullying movement.

“Raising awareness around bullying and taking a collective stance on zero tolerance allows us to be a part of the solution, not the problem,” says McNamara.

RCMP remind parents to talk to their children about bullying to try to ensure they’re not silent victims.
