Police chase in East Kildonan Friday led to drug arrest

A routine traffic stop in a Winnipeg neigbourhood resulted in a police chase and drug trafficking charges Feb. 16.

Police attempted to pull over a sedan near Watt Street and Sydney Avenue at around 1:20 p.m. but the car sped off.

Officers managed to stop the car a short distance away on Watt Street at Chalmers Avenue.  The driver was arrested and a number of items were seized, including cell phones, cash,  16 grams of crack cocaine and a small safe.

An additional 120 grams of cocaine was found in the safe.

Justin Peter Karpluk, 20, from Winnipeg faces several charges:

  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice
