Justin Bieber calls 19th his ‘worst birthday’

TORONTO – Canadian pop star Justin Bieber’s 19th birthday on Friday was not the celebration he expected.

“Worst birthday,” he tweeted, without elaborating.

Fittingly, the London, Ont.-born singer marked his birthday in London, England.

After performing two nights in Birmingham, Bieber was looking forward to a birthday bash with rumoured girlfriend, British singer Ella-Paige Roberts Clarke, and close friends like actor Jaden Smith and Australian singer Cody Simpson.

“Big night ahead,” Bieber tweeted early Friday.

“Gonna be fun tonight. Thanks to everyone for all the birthday wishes. 19!”

Those wishes included messages from his parents Jeremy Bieber (“Happy Birthday son!,” he tweeted) and Pattie Mallette, who tweeted: “Happy 19th Birthday!! First Bday I’m not with you! Miss u like crazy. Have a good one!!! Love mom. Xoxo”

The special day started well enough. He hit the gym early and ran into singer Nicole Scherzinger (who later tweeted “Happy Birthday Sweetie! xo) then went shopping at high-end department store Selfridge’s – owned by Canada’s Galen Weston.

Bieber’s first dinner as a 19-year-old was at the elegant Mint Leaf Indian restaurant with friends.

Then it was off to the Cirque Du Soir nightclub for a circus-themed celebration. But Bieber and his entourage left the club after only a few minutes following a confrontation between his reps and club security staff.

According to British news reports, the nightclub may have had issues with underage guests in Bieber’s entourage. The legal drinking age is 18.

The singer and his friends returned to his hotel, where his people were seen delivering bags of McDonald’s food.

Meanwhile in Los Angeles, Bieber’s friend Lil Twist was pulled over by police on Friday while driving Bieber’s Fisker Karma sports car and, according to TMZ, ticketed for having tinted windows.

Bieber’s “worst” birthday comes a little more than a month after the Believe star admitted he was “not in the happiest place” following his split from actress-singer Selena Gomez. It also comes after Bieber made headlines for being photographed allegedly smoking pot in a California hotel room and being accused of assaulting a security guard at a concert venue in Ottawa.

Bieber has a concert Saturday night in Nottingham followed by four shows at London’s O2 Arena.

He’ll be back in his native province – where he is now of legal drinking age – in July for concerts in Ottawa and Toronto.
