VIDEO: Man rescued near Canmore after paragliding crash

 CALGARY- Emergency crews rushed to rescue a man near Canmore on Thursday, who was seriously injured in a paragliding accident.

The call came in around 3 p.m., after a man in his 30’s believed to be from Canmore was significantly injured after crashing into Mt. Lady MacDonald.

Officials say he lost control and crashed into the side of the mountain, about 200 metres below the Tea House. He used a cell phone to call a relative for help, who then contacted EMS.

A helicopter with conservation officers and paramedics rushed to the scene, which was on a very steep slope that was difficult to access.

The victim was conscious when emergency crews arrived, suffering from numerous broken bones. He was airlifted to the hospital in Canmore, then transferred by STARS to the Foothills Hospital in Calgary.

He is listed in serious, potentially life-threatening condition.
