The warning stems from an incident in Vernon Wednesday when a tow-truck was nearly struck by a vehicle.

RCMP said the tow-truck driver was changing a tire on a Ford Focus stranded on Highway 97 near Bailey Road.

They said a Toyota Rav 4 hit the tow truck from behind, causing a chain reaction crash.

“The tow truck driver was very lucky he wasn’t seriously injured during this incident,” Cst. Kelly Brett said.

She said the passengers in the Ford Focus and Toyota Rav sustained minor injuries and were transported to hospital as a precaution.

“Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are reminding motorists to slow down during the icy road conditions and move over when an emergency vehicle is roadside, giving them plenty of space to do their job,” Brett said.  “As the weather continues to cool down significantly throughout the Okanagan over the next few days the icy conditions will persist. Please slow down and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination this holiday season.”
