A young Missouri woman finished her college psychology exams while hospitalized and preparing to give birth at any moment.
On Dec. 12, Nayzia Thomas, a second-year psychology student at Johnson County Community College, shared a photo of herself on Twitter, taking the exam while propped up in a hospital bed, wearing a gown about to give birth to her first child.
Thomas’ mom recommended she contact her professor to let her know she was about to give birth.
But Thomas was determined to finish her final project before the delivery.
“Obviously my mind and my nerves were everywhere,” she told NBC. “Just the thought, ‘I’m about to give birth’ was definitely frightening for me.”

“I just had to keep levelling myself and thinking, ‘the quicker you get this done, the quicker you can focus on one and not two things.'”

Despite a brief complication, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy. “He’s very calm, he does not cry a lot, but I know that will change,” she said.
On Dec. 15, she took to Twitter to give an update, posting a picture of the father and son.
“It was very scary, but his father was right there to take over when I felt unconscious. We are blessed!”
Thomas said she finished the semester with a 3.5 GPA.
