A Saskatoon police officer was assaulted while trying to arrest a man during a foot chase.
Patrol officers had been called to a home in the 200-block of Avenue O South early Sunday morning after members of the air support unit (ASU) spotted a suspicious vehicle outside the home.
The people inside the vehicle were watched as they entered the home and as patrol officers responded, ASU saw one man flee through the front door.
A ground officer gave chase and a struggle ensued.
The officer was struck in the face and the man continued to flee. The officer did not suffer any serious injuries.
The fleeing man was caught by a police dog and arrested.
He had to be treated for dog bite wounds.
The 29-year-old man is facing charges of assaulting a police officer, breach of probation and breach of recognizance.
