A 63-year-old man, formerly from St. Thomas, is facing a number of charges following reports of a break-in in his former town on Saturday.
St. Thomas police say around 8:30 p.m. they received multiple calls about a man breaking into a house in the north end of the city.
One of the calls was from a frantic woman who was inside the home that was being broken into.
Officers say when they got to the scene they were confronted by a man wielding a sledgehammer.
They say when the man refused to drop his weapon, police used a Taser, but it had no effect on the enraged male.
Other officers showed up and the suspect was eventually taken into custody without injury to anyone.
He was held in custody to appear in court via video later in the day on Sunday.
