A possible water main break saw water pour down streets and into the basements of homes in the area of Fenwood Drive and Edgehill Road in Halifax on Friday.
Halifax Water has told Global News that their crews arrived shortly after 12 p.m. and that water was shut off by 12:30 p.m.
Water service is expected to return to the area by 9:00 p.m.
James Campbell, a spokesperson for the utility, says they are still not sure what caused the the intense surge of water and says that they won’t for at least a few hours. Halifax Water is waiting for information on the location of other infrastructure before they begin to dig.
Global News spoke with three residents who had experienced flooding in their homes.
“I came out to feed my dog at lunchtime and I looked out the window and there was a river going down my backyard. I ran downstairs and there was two feet of water down there,” said Michael Cooke.

“I don’t know how quickly it happened but it definitely got out of control real quick.”
Andrea Dawson Thomas says her house was flooded and the damage looks to be significant.
The area of her home that was hardest hit housed a recording studio and musical equipment that she uses for her small business.
“There’s guitars, amps and all kinds of things,” she said
Thomas says it only took a few moments for her home to go from dry to flooded.
