Dog dies at Saskatoon house fire in Pacific Heights neighbourhood

The Saskatoon Fire Department says a dog has died as a result of a house fire in the Pacific Heights neighbourhood on Tuesday.

A 911 call reported the fire at 206 Dickey Cres. at around 6:25 a.m. CT.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames showing from the back of the home.

Initial reports advised the fire department that all occupants had evacuated the house.

Crews attacked the blaze from outside the house while searching to ensure no one was inside.

The animal was found in a dog house adjacent to the home.

Investigators have determined the fire was caused by a light bulb in contact with wood panelling.

An updated estimate pegs damage at $120,000.
