Vancouver police are warning the public about a pair of fraudsters targeting elderly women.

The phone scam starts off by a person impersonating a bank security officer trying to catch a bank clerk who is stealing money from their account.

Police say the latest victim was a 94-year-old woman who was told by a female caller that she needed to withdraw money from her bank account to help “set a trap” and deliver it to a man waiting nearby.

The woman withdrew the money from her account but changed her mind at the last minute, choosing not deliver the cash to the unidentified male suspect.

The incident isn’t the first time elderly women have been targeted in a financial scam.

Vancouver Police Sgt. Jason Robillard says they want to warn the public to take precautions when dealing with suspicious money transfers or withdrawals.

“Call police or speak to a trusted family member before withdrawing or transferring any money,” said Robillard.

Police say they are investigating.
