London police have launched an investigation after receiving a report about an attempted child abduction in the city’s north end on Thursday.

The alleged incident happened around 3:30 p.m. in the area of Stackhouse Avenue and Devos Drive in the city’s Stoney Creek neighbourhood and involved an eight-year-old boy, police said.

The boy told officers he had left school and was riding his scooter home when a red van pulled into the end of a driveway and blocked his path. The boy reported that a male driver exited the van, confronted him, and pushed him and his scooter into the van.

The boy said he was able to unlock the door of the van and climb out with his scooter and return home. The boy was not physically injured, police said.

The male driver, described only as white and approximately 40 years of age, was the van’s lone occupant, police said. The vehicle is described as being an older model van with a red exterior and black interior.
