Elderly man found inside Edmonton house after blaze wasn’t killed by fire

The death of a man whose body was found after a house fire in north Edmonton was not fire-related.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services said the fire was determined to be accidental. A specific cause has not been determined.

Investigators estimate the fire caused $250,000 in damages to the structure and $75,000 in damages to content inside.

Emergency crews were called to the house in the Beaumaris neighbourhood on Friday at around 9:40 a.m. An elderly man was found dead inside.

They said a home-care worker arrived at the home in the area of 98 Street and 156 Avenue, saw smoke and called 911.

No one else was home at the time.

The son and daughter-in-law of the victim spoke to Global News. They declined to release his name but said he lived alone and would have turned 85 this month. They said he had cancer and his wife died four years ago.
