4 people charged in historic Edmonton fentanyl seizure

Charges have been laid against four people in what Edmonton police call the largest fentanyl pill seizure in Canada.

The police investigation began in March and involved four Edmonton homes and one in Sturgeon County.

In July, police seized 67,000 fentanyl pills with a street value of $2 million from one of the Edmonton properties. The investigation also led police to uncover a fentanyl processing lab at the Sturgeon County home, which was deemed unfit for human habitation by Alberta Health Services.

In total, police seized more than $4 million worth of drugs and more than $1 million cash from the five properties.

The items seized include:

  • 1.9 kg of cocaine base and cocaine hydrochloride with an estimated street value of $100,000
  • 1.8 kg of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $52,000
  • 834 – 1-gram packages of cannabis extract (shatter) with an estimated street value of $58,000
  • 128,846 fentanyl pills with an estimated street value of $3.9 million
  • 112 g of carfentanil with an estimated street value of $14,000
  • 1 kg of unknown substances laced with fentanyl with an estimated street value of $175,000
  • 583g of marijuana with an estimated street value of $3,000
  • 12 kg of buffing agents
  • Approximately 100 kg of fentanyl pill buffing agents
  • $1 million cash
  • 4 cement mixers
  • 2 pill presses
  • 2001 Ford F150 with hidden compartment

Four people were arrested and charged on Monday.

Landen Wisbey, 33, is charged with production of a controlled substance, six counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.

Wayne Tran, 31, is charged with production of a controlled substance, three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of possession of the proceeds of crime.

Dennis Trinh, 34, is charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.

Thinh Dinh, 29, is charged with five counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
