Flood warning issued as roads pool with water in Kitimat and Terrace area

The River Forecast Centre of B.C. issued a flood warning early for the northern coast of B.C. early Wednesday.

Kitimat, Terrace and Williams Creek were among the areas mentioned in the warning, while 50 people were evacuated from New Remo, southwest of Terrace, at around 2 a.m.

The floods have affected areas of Highway 37, including Rosswood and Lakelse Lake.

The heavy rain started late Tuesday night.

As of Wednesday afternoon, water was pooling from Terrace to Big Oliver Creek Bridge, as well as from Kitimat to the junction with Highway 16 in Terrace, according to DriveBC.

The River Forecast Centre will keep monitoring conditions and update the public as necessary.
