Faculty at 24 Ontario colleges are entering their second week of picketing.
There have been no talks between the Ontario Public Service Employees Union and the College Employer Council since Oct. 15 when more than 12,000 professors, instructors, counsellors, and librarians walked off the job.
As of now, no negotiations have been scheduled between the two sides.
With no end in sight, student associations took it upon themselves to get talks going again.
Late last week, eight student unions, including the Fanshawe Student Union, signed an open letter which called on the government to intervene in order to get both sides back to the bargaining table.
If there is no resolution by Thursday, Oct. 26, student representatives plan to head to Queen’s Park to voice their concerns.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union has called for the College Employer Council to ensure the number of full-time faculty matches the number of faculty members on contract.
It also called for improvements in job security and for faculty to have a stronger voice in academic decision-making.
