Peterborough police are searching for two suspects after a man was stabbed in the downtown core early Friday morning.
Around 2:20 a.m. police responded to the area of George and Hunter streets for reports of an injured man who had been involved in an altercation with two unknown men.
The victim suffered a stab wound and lacerations and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released, police said.
Staff Sgt. Neil Collins says a fight broke out between two groups shortly after 2 a.m.
“They then separated, but then met up again closer to the area near Brock St.,” Collins said. “At that time suspects then armed themselves with some knives.”
Police closed the area for an investigation during which they say they located a weapon (a large knife) at the scene.
Both suspects are described as Caucasian, standing around 5-foot-10 to 5-foot-11 with skinny builds. One suspect is around 170 pounds and was wearing boots, khaki pants, a black sweater and a flat brimmed black hat.
The second suspect is described as having blond hair, acne and was wearing a red sweater.
Police reopened the roads before 5 a.m.
No arrests have been made yet, but Collins points out that there were a lot of people downtown when the incident happened.
“There would have been several witnesses in the area,” he said. “It would be nice if those people, everyone who’s carrying a cellphone, gave us a call.”
