Attempted traffic stop in Surrey leads to crash, take-down in Langley

What started as a routine traffic stop in Surrey ended with a fleeing suspect, a crashed car and an arrest in Langley Saturday night.

The incident began just after 6:30 p.m. when a Surrey RCMP gang unit officer attempted to stop a vehicle on 68th Avenue in Clayton Heights.

The vehicle took off at high speed, only to crash minutes later into a fenced median at 68th Avenue and 200th Street in Langley. No other vehicles or pedestrians were affected by the crash.

The suspect allegedly fled the scene on foot, with RCMP officers from Surrey and Langley in pursuit. The officers were assisted with a K-9 unit and helicopter surveillance.

After tracking the suspect through a nearby construction site and into a wooded area, the police dog took down the suspect and officers made an arrest.

It’s still unclear what prompted the traffic stop, or whether the suspect is known to police.
