People in Saskatoon can load up on free compost or mulch at the depot off Highway 7.
This material is normally used to keep the City of Saskatoon’s gardens and parks lush.
However, the city is providing this service to the public for the first time to determine the level of interest in these materials. The service will run until Nov. 12.

To keep costs low for this pilot project, people will be doing most of the dirty work.
“We’re asking residents to bring their own shovels, containers, gloves and be prepared to bring in their own materials into their trucks, their vehicles and haul them back to their own homes,” senior project management engineer Michelle Jelinski said.
Finished compost and mulch can be loaded at the city’s compost depot 1.8 kilometres south of 22nd Street from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. CT daily. Each vehicle is limited to one cubic yard.
For bulk requests, an appointment can be made by contacting 306-975-2486. Bulk material can be purchased at $15 per cubic yard.
