With holiday Monday just around the corner, the London Food Bank’s 29th annual Thanksgiving Food Drive is drawing to a close.

Since the drive kicked off last Saturday, 18,000 kilos of food have already been collected.

The food bank’s co-executive director, Glen Pearson, compares the numbers from past years.

“It’s just a bit down from last year. We’ve had to remind people, last year was an exceptional year. We were up 20 per cent over the year before and that was because some special drives were held. But we’re still up over where we were two years ago.”

While donations may not be as high, Pearson says he’s more than confident the food bank will be able to keep shelves stocked.

“It’s not like it was in earlier years where we had lean times. Now, it tends to be fairly steady that the shelves are there.”

Donations are being accepted in local grocery stores and fire halls as well as the London Food Bank.

Pearson says fresh food donations should be brought directly to the food bank.

The food drive ends on Thanksgiving Monday.
