Utilities Kingston continues to work on a water main that clogged traffic on a busy road Thursday morning.
Thousands of drivers had to take a detour after water flooded Bath Road forcing the closure of the east and westbound lanes between Centennial Drive and Queen Mary Road. A number of stores and businesses along Bath Road near the Frontenac Mall were also affected.
All but one lane westbound lane reopened earlier in the day.
Jim Keech is the president and CEO of Utilities Kingston and says they’ve spent most of the day assessing the situation.
“A large distribution water main 12 inch. A leak was reported very early this morning. Our crews went out and made the area safe. It’s interesting where that pipe is, there’s actually a tie between the old city and the new city so yeah pretty significant piece of infrastructure we’re dealing with.”
The break happened sometime early Thursday morning and it may take until early Friday before the break is fully repaired and everything cleaned-up at the scene.
