A 72-year-old man is facing several charges after a Sûreté du Québec officer was shot, and a woman found dead inside a home on Du Sentier Street in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield Tuesday night.
According to SQ spokesperson Daniel Thibodeau, Alain Castonguay will be charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his partner Joanne Chayer.
He will also be charged with four counts of attempted murder of a police officer and dangerous use of a firearm, Thibodeau said.

The events leading up to the charges unfolded Tuesday night after police received a 911 call about a possible domestic dispute on Du Sentier Street at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
As officers arrived, a man allegedly opened fire, hitting an officer in the abdomen. The 27-year-old was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
The officer remains hospitalized, but is expected to make a full recovery.
Chayer was found unconscious inside the home after a more than four-hour standoff. The suspect also suffered undisclosed injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Castonguay will appear in court on Thursday via video-conference.
