Crown seeking direct indictment against Alexa Emerson

The Crown is pushing to bypass the preliminary hearing phase of court proceedings in the Alexa Emerson case.

Emerson is facing 83 charges after a number of suspicious packages and white powder scares, and bomb threats in Saskatoon last fall and this spring.

The Crown said it would be seeking a direct indictment against Emerson.

Permission for the request falls to the attorney general.

The Crown has not said why they are asking for a direct indictment, which would send the case directly to trial if successful.

Grounds for an application include unreasonable costs or length of time for a preliminary hearing.

Emerson, who is also known as Amanda Totchek, is back in court on Oct. 17.
