Halifax police charge 18-year-old in wake of alleged early morning crime spree

An 18-year-old man from Halifax has been arrested in connection to a series events on Tuesday morning that involved a break and enter, a collision with a cyclist and a vehicle rollover.

Halifax Regional Police say the man, whose name has not been released, stole a vehicle then proceeded to leave the scene of a car-cyclist collision before flipping the vehicle.

Police responded to the 6700 block of Jubilee Road at 7:10 a.m., in relation to a car/cyclist collision.

Officer say a 60-year-old woman was reported to have been struck while stopping to make a left turn onto Fairfield Road.

The woman was not injured but the vehicle did leave the scene.

A few minutes later at 7:15 a.m., a call came in regarding a car that had crashed and flipped on its roof at the corner of Prince Arthur Street and Tupper Grove.

Witnesses saw the uninjured driver of the vehicle walking away from the crash.

Police located and searched the residence of the crashed vehicle’s owner. They determined that the apartment had been broken into with the owner’s wallet, car keys, laptop and vehicle being stolen.

At 7:39 a.m. officers located a man matching their suspect’s description. He was found to be in possession of the car owner’s stolen items. The suspect was arrested without incident and is currently in police custody.

The 18-year-old man has been charged with break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, impaired operation of a motor vehicle by drug, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.

He’s scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Wednesday.
