The bodies of two missing men have been recovered after a canoe capsized early Sunday morning on Sturgeon Lake.
Kawartha Lakes OPP say around 2:35 a.m. emergency services personnel were called to the lake to assist four Toronto-area men whose canoe had capsized. Police say one person managed to swim to shore while a second was rescued from the water by OPP officers using a borrowed boat.
The other two men were reported as missing. None of the occupants were wearing life jackets at the time, police said.
The Underwater Search and Recovery Unit and Aviation Services arrived on scene Sunday.
Around 5:30 p.m., the body of one of the men was recovered from the water and was identified by police as Mohammadmehdi Ahmadi, 18, of North York.
The search continued until dusk and resumed on Monday and Tuesday.
On Friday, OPP said the search and recovery unit had suspended their search efforts. However, an update on Friday evening said a body was recovered from the south shore of Sturgeon Lake around 2:30 p.m.
The man has been identified as 17-year-old Salar Alizadeli of North York.
