One of Vancouver’s most famous hotels has checked in its last client.

The West End’s Empire Landmark Hotel will be closing Saturday with a wrecking ball on the way.

Owner Johnny Tsang says there’s one thing he will miss more than anything, and it’s not the 360 degree view from the restaurant.

“I’m going to miss all the people here. The people working with me because I’m originally from Toronto. Then I came over for the last 14 years to work in this hotel. That’s why I said this is my family.”

“It’s a people business. So it’s not working with machines and I really consider myself lucky that I have had a good team working with me for all this time.”

The 357-room hotel sold for $46.5 million last year and will be turned into two 30-storey towers.
