An open house was held in Vancouver Tuesday night on the future of the iconic Empire Landmark Hotel in the downtown core.

The 42-storey hotel on Robson Street would, if the application is approved, be torn down, Global News learned last month.

A developer is awaiting approval from the Development Permit board on its application to develop 28- and 30-storey mixed-use buildings at the site of the hotel.

The proposal being put forward includes the tearing down of the hotel in order to construct a podium and the two towers.

But the big question now is how the building will come down.

The developers say a decision still hasn’t been made as to whether the existing tower, originally built in 1973, will be taken apart or imploded.
