Riders who take Winnipeg Transit could soon have access to free Wi-Fi while on the bus.
The city is looking at launching a pilot project on Jan. 1, 2018 to see if the idea could be expanded across Winnipeg.
Councillors at the Innovation committee will have the chance later this week to vote on the plan, which would see up to 12 buses on various routes be outfitted with free Wi-Fi for the entire year.
“I think it’s great,” a transit rider told Global News Monday. “My question would be, will there be an increase and how much will it be?”
The project is expected to cost $300,000 and the money would come from 2016 Innovation Capital Fund as opposed to the Winnipeg transit budget.
