Kate Winslet sounds off on her love for Vancouver, and Deep Cove doughnuts

Kate Winslet appears to have had a grueling, but great time filming her new movie The Mountain Between Us in Vancouver this year.

The Oscar-winning actress spoke to media on the red carpet at the movie’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on Sunday night.

“I love Vancouver,” Winslet said. “I was so happy to be there and so sad to leave.”

She also gave a special shout-out to one particular business she patronized while she was in the city.

“I pine for Honey’s Doughnuts in Deep Cove, pine for Honey’s Doughnuts in Deep Cove,” Winslet said twice, for extra emphasis.

Winslet’s remarks drew a response from Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson, who invited her to “come back anytime.”

And a happy reaction from David Shepheard, director of the Vancouver Film Commission.

“A shout-out like this can go a long way in the line of work film commissions do,” he said.

“We spend a lot of our time convincing studios and producers from all over the world that Vancouver is a fantastic place to come and shoot their movie.

“When this is backed up by stars like Kate Winslet, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Neil Patrick Harris and Ryan Reynolds saying how much they enjoy being in this beautiful city – well, it’s not just movie-goers and fans that get excited by this.”

The Mountain Between Us, which also stars Idris Elba, tells the story of two people who are forced to traverse mountainous terrain after a plane crash.

The film was directed by Hany Abu-Assad, who was previously known for Paradise Now, a film about Palestinian men who were recruited to become suicide bombers.

Some people who worked on The Mountain Between Us had previously served on the set of the Leonardo DiCaprio film The Revenant, which was also a film about a character forced to brave the elements.

Winslet said that the crew who worked on both films claimed the latest one was even tougher.
