Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Park has officially reopened, almost three weeks after a microburst knocked down dozens of trees and branches.
The park was closed after thunderstorms and winds of up to 110 km/h devastated parts of it.

The northern section of the park was reopened on Aug. 31, after borough officials announced that inspectors had cleared the section of the park to be reopened. But the south side remained closed because more work had to be carried out.

Though residents are happy about the opening, some said walking through the park is bittersweet.

“I guess I’m pretty happy that it’s reopened, so that our community can go back into it,” said NDG resident Naomi Copithorne. “We have family, friends who love coming to the park, kids, the dog park, obviously. But there is something a little sad about it, as we walk around and it’s really hard to not see the disaster that has happened.”

The storm damaged an estimated 100 homes, “scores and scores of cars” and 400 trees.
