Three occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Two people, including the officer who was the driver, were pronounced dead on scene.
Paramedics transported the third occupant to hospital with serious injuries.
It is believed the vehicle was travelling southbound on Avonhead Road and failed to negotiate the intersection, which sent the vehicle airborne into a thick, wooded area.
Peel police have requested that Toronto police take the lead on the investigation “in light of the far-reaching and deeply felt impact this tragedy will have across the Peel Regional Police service.”
