You can add Hamilton to the list of cities that plans to submit a bid to land the second headquarters of Amazon.

The Seattle-based tech giant has announced that it plans to establish a second company headquarters in North America, and it is seeking proposals before an October 19 deadline.

The so-called “HQ2” could mean up to 50,000 new jobs for the winning city.

In a statement released on Friday afternoon, Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger says the benefits are “self-evident and unprecedented.”

He adds that the city has obtained Amazon’s Request for Proposals document with a view to responding.

The mayor also stresses that he believes Hamilton meets many of Amazon’s criteria including proximity to mass transit, rail, major arterial roads, and proximity to an international airport.

Other Canadian cities planning to submit bids, so far, are Toronto and London.
