Winnipeg and Manitoba enjoyed a really pleasant summer and here are some statistics to show it.

Looking at Environment Canada records from June through August, temperature wise, Winnipeg was slightly below normal. Nothing statistically relevant in June (-0.2 C) or July (-0.5 C) but approximately cooler by 1.1 Celsius in August.

This may be partially attributed to the lack of scorching hot days. Usually, Winnipeg will get above 30 C fourteen times from the beginning of June. This year that only happened six times.

There certainly wasn’t a shortage of sunny days to warm up cause rain was hard to come by. Usually the Winnipeg airport would see at least 0.2 mm of rain 37 times over the summer. This happened only 28 times this year. And overall rainfall numbers were down all across southern Manitoba.

Brandon, Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg were all well below normal for rainfall amounts.

July 22: 60mm of rain reported in less than an hour in northeast Winnipeg due to thunderstorm.

August 4: Report of nickel sized hail in North Kildonan.
