Three young people who police say used a replica hand gun to rob a southeast grocery store are now in custody. They were rounded up by four Calgary police horses on a routine patrol in the area.

Police say at about 9:40 p.m. on Thursday, an employee of the store, in the 300 block of 17 Avenue S.E., noticed the theft and confronted the youth. Investigators say the suspects pointed what looked to be a hand gun at the employee before leaving the store.

Mounted unit officers, with their horses Vimy, Ortona, Juno and Maverick, responded to the scene. A statement on Friday said they “intercepted the three young males who were running towards a pedestrian pathway in a nearby area.”
