Indiana mom arrested after baby overdoses on opiates

A Yorktown, Ind. woman has been arrested after her one-year-old son overdosed on opiates and had to be revived in hospital.

The baby was brought to Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana by his cousin after he stopped breathing, and had to be revived using NaloxoneFox 59 reported.

His mother Daisha Clark, 26, reportedly tried to stop her child’s cousin from taking the boy to hospital, insisting that he was okay.

Clark told police that she found her son with a piece of plastic and a white powdery substance in his mouth, suspecting that he might have ingested drugs, but said she figured the child would be fine and didn’t think it was necessary to take him to hospital, the Fox 59 report added.

According to RTV6, police found a syringe with a brown liquid substance in Clark’s home, as well as a pair of burnt spoons bearing white residue – telltale signs of heroin use.

She was arrested late Wednesday night for child neglect and possession of drug paraphernelia. Her baby is alive, but his specific condition is unknown.

Clark was previously arrested in 2015 after she abandoned another child of hers in a car while “sleeping with a male,” after having driven while intoxicated while on a suspended license, The Star Press reported at the time.

She also faces charges for burglary and theft filed in 2014.
