A soldier from CFB Edmonton who faced one count of sexual assault under Section 271 of the Criminal Code, was found not guilty Thursday, June 6, 2019.
In July 2017, the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service said the charge was related to a reported sexual assault against a civilian at a private residence that January.
“The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service investigates all allegations of sexual assault in a thorough and impartial manner,” the service said at the time. “This charge reflects our ongoing commitment to support and protect victims and help prosecute persons responsible for sexual offences.”
Capt. Mark Sribney was charged. He was a member of 1 Combat Engineer Regiment, a Regular Force regiment of the Canadian Military Engineers.
On June 6, 2019, the jury found Sribney not guilty of sexual assault, after about five hours of deliberation.
