UPDATE: Missing Calgary senior Kelly Flock found dead

Family and friends of missing senior Kelly Flock are inviting community members to a candle-lit vigil Thursday night in Calgary’s Marda Loop neighbourhood as the Calgary Police Service missing persons unit continues to work on the case.

The vigil will take place at 9 p.m. at the Marda Loop Communities Association parking lot (3130 16 St. S.W.).

Flock’s brother, his daughter Kendra and a friend of the family are set to speak at the event.

Kendra says the outpouring of support from the Calgary community has been incredible in helping keep their spirits up.

“For us, there’s no other option. We’re going to remain hopeful 100 per cent until my dad is home safe and sound.”

Organizers have asked people to bring positive energy, a candle or to download the Candle Light app.

They’re also asking anyone with outdoor surveillance video between June 22 and 26 showing the Marda Loop area (specifically 33 or 34 Avenue and 20 Street) and the Mission area to email findkellyflock@gmail.com.

“That’ll give us a really good idea of what my dad was possibly last wearing, which could really help us narrow down the search,” Kendra said.

Flock, 68, has been missing since June 22 and was last seen on his dark charcoal-coloured bicycle.

The entire bike is a charcoal colour, say Calgary police.

The bike is described as a dark charcoal mid-90s model Trek 5000 road bike with skinny tires, the word “Trek” on the angle bar, the number “5000” on the vertical bar, “OCLV” on the horizontal bar and a water bottle holder installed.

Police specifically asked the public to watch for the bike around the city, explaining its location could provide “valuable information” on Flock’s whereabouts.

“Sometimes bikes end up in ditches or boulevards or front lawns, and if somebody notices something like that, a bike of that description, we would ask them to give us a call and we will come down and take a look and see if it actually matches,” Acting Insp. Paul Wozney said at a press conference Thursday afternoon.

Wozney said Flock’s file has been assigned to two full-time investigators.

Police said several areas of south Calgary have been searched, including around Flock’s home and nearby fields. Targeted searches based on tips or “cellphone pings” in certain areas will continue, he said.

When asked if there is any reason to believe Flock does not want to be found, Wozney said due to physiological issues, he may need help.

“If we bump into Mr. Flock and he tells us to go away and he doesn’t want us to have any sort of concern for him, we’ll go away and we’ll know that he’s safe,” he said. “But until that happens, we’re certainly concerned about him. And his family certainly echoes those same feelings.”

Flock is described as 5’11” tall, approximately 165 pounds, with a slim build, grey hair and blue eyes. Police said he was previously described as being 5’8” tall, which isn’t correct.

Watch below from July 3: Kelly Flock hasn’t been seen in 10 days, but as Jenna Freeman reports, the family isn’t giving up hope.
