UPDATE: Charges laid in 1 of 2 east Hamilton shootings

Hamilton police have now released some information on two overnight shooting incidents in the city’s east end and investigators say they are not connected.

The first happened about 10:30 p.m. at a home on Avondale Street  in the Barton and Gage area in what detectives are calling a home invasion.

When police got there, a man exited the home with his hands up saying he was the shooter and he was arrested without incident.

A short while later a younger man walked into Hamilton General Hospital’s ER with a gunshot wound and he too was arrested.

Investigators now say that the break and enter wasn’t random.

Police confirmed Monday afternoon that the 65-year-old homeowner and the shooting victim, a 24-year-old Hamilton man, know each other.

Both will face charges. The homeowner in relation to the firearm and the shooting. The 24-year-old in connection with the break and enter.

The other incident happened just before 2 a.m. on Sherman Avenue near Cannon Street.

A man was walking with a group on Sherman when a car pulled up, someone shouted “Hey” and a shot was fired.

That man was rushed to hospital with a reported gunshot wound to the chest.

The search for a suspect continues as does the investigation.

Police say there is no danger to the public as a result of either incident.
