Out with the old and in with the new for Halifax ferries as one boat heads to Toronto

The decommissioned Halifax ferry that was listed for sale on Kijiji has officially been sold.

According to city officials, the old Dartmouth III ferry will soon be heading to Ontario as the Toronto Island Transit Service has purchased the 39-year-old boat for $100,000.

The Dartmouth III is currently in Sambro, N.S. undergoing maintenance before it makes its move to the largest city in Canada.

The ‘Vincent Coleman’ takes shape

Thursday also gave Haligonians their first look at one of the new ferries that will soon come into service.

Mayor Mike Savage tweeted some photos of the new Vincent Coleman as he toured the shipyard where it’s being built.

Savage made sure to tag David Hendsbee, councillor for Preston–Chezzetcook–Eastern Shore, who was a vocal proponent for a ferry to be named after Coleman.

If you’re interested in a ferry of your own, The Halifax III and Woodside I will soon be for sale.

One will be available this fall, while the other will be up for grabs in 2018.
