More gun violence in Surrey overnight after shots were fired in a home in the city’s Bridgeview neighbourhood.

Staff Sgt. Dale Carr says it began with a shots-fired call Monday evening at a home near 125A Street and 113B Avenue.

“We contained the area and called in the experts, the Emergency Response Team,” he said. “You know, we arrived on scene, identified the home that was involved, we were able to extricate two individuals from the home, and we were unsure for the last few hours whether there was anybody still inside the home.”

Eventually, no one was found inside, and Carr says serious crimes officers are now interviewing everyone as to why someone fired shots inside the home.

It turns out the shots were fired by people trying to rob the residence. The two tenants fought back, one cutting his head in the process.

“I can tell that we’ve been in this neighbourhood in the past and we’ve dealt with this particular house in the past but the individual that has an injury, I’m not certain if he’s known to police or the other occupants,” said Carr.

RCMP think the violence was targeted and drug-related.

The assessed value of the property is $575,000 and the owners have been ordered to clean-up some of the mess outside. Bylaw officers have received several complaints and if the owner doesn’t clean up by the end of this week, the city will do it for him and send him the bill, plus a $500 fine.
