Halifax police say they have no suspects in the killing of an 18-year-old woman found dying on a dark walkway this week.

Spokeswoman Melissa MacInnis says investigators are asking for the public’s help, and specifically looking for video surveillance from the streets surrounding the north end Dartmouth pathway.

Chelsie Probert was rushed to hospital late Tuesday, where she later died of her injuries.

“The investigation is in its early stages, it’s ongoing, so right now we are just canvassing the area, we are looking for video surveillance, anything that can help to solve this crime,” MacInnis said.

The death was ruled a homicide following an autopsy but police have not released the cause of death.

The path cuts through Farrell Street Park near Albro Lake Road and Wyse Road.

“Obviously, this was an unsettling incident that occurred, but we want people to know that we do have a police presence, and they are welcome to contact police at any point, we’re here for the community 24/7,” said MacInnis.

“Our investigators are working on this to ensure we solve this crime.”

Police stepped up patrols in the neighbourhood last summer after a string of violent incidents.

A man was stabbed on the same north end Dartmouth pathway in late February.

Although residents said this week it’s a hard-working family area, they also said more efforts are needed to address issues that have persistently plagued pockets of the neighbourhood.
