Edmonton officially named 2018 Grey Cup host city

The Canadian Football League held a news conference Monday afternoon at The Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium, where it was made official: Edmonton will be the host city for the 2018 Grey Cup game and related festivities.

This will be the fifth Grey Cup played in Edmonton, and the first since 2010 when the Montreal Alouettes defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Edmonton Eskimos president and CEO Len Rhodes said it was a wonderful day for the city, province, Eskimos fans and all CFL fans.

“I’m very proud that we were successful in our bid to host the 2018 Grey Cup,” Rhodes said, thanking the government for its support.

He called the Grey Cup an “iconically Canadian event.”

Representatives from the CFL, the Eskimos, province, city and Edmonton Tourism attended the announcement.

The 2017 Grey Cup game will be played in Ottawa on Sunday, Nov. 26.

630 CHED will carry the news conference live at 2 p.m.
