TORONTO – Redblacks quarterback Henry Burris was named the Grey Cup‘s most valuable player after leading Ottawa to a 39-33 overtime win against the Calgary Stampeders.

Burris’s status was in doubt before kickoff when his left knee locked up during pre-game warmups.

Still, he was on the field for the Redblacks’ first offensive snap and was stellar, throwing three TD passes and running for two more.

“There was almost a situation where I wasn’t able to play today. My knee locked up on me before the game, I mean I wouldn’t have been able to accept that,” Burris said when interviewed after receiving his MVP award.
