Piers Morgan criticizes Ariana Grande for not visiting victims after Manchester attack

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has sparked online backlash after criticizing Ariana Grande in the wake of the Manchester attack.

Grande performed at the Manchester Arena on Monday night before a suicide attack that left 22 people dead.

The singer told fans that she was “absolutely broken” by the devastating events, before cancelling her remaining tour dates.

Morgan took to Twitter to question why the star didn’t remain in Manchester to visit those injured.

The Twitter drama began when, in reference to the Queen visiting injured concertgoers in hospital, Katy Perry tweeted, “God bless The Queen and her kind heart #StayStrongManchester.”

Morgan latched onto Perry’s tweet to share his opinion on the situation.

“Agreed. Might have been nice if @ArianaGrande had stayed to do the same.”

Morgan continued to rant on Twitter.

Many Twitter users pointed out that his argument could very easily be seen as highly insensitive.

Morgan has been caught in a series of controversies related to the Manchester attack this week. First, he was criticized for an interview with Coronation Street stars about the Manchester attack on Tuesday.

Connie Hyde (who plays Gina Seddon) and Sally Dynevor (who plays Sally Webster) were at the Good Morning Britain studios to talk about upcoming storylines on the show.

Instead of allowing them to speak about Coronation Street, Morgan grilled them over the Manchester Arena attack.

Dynevor said, “We want to say before the chat begins that we didn’t come down to talk about this. We came to talk about Coronation Street. Right now, we are in a state of shock.”

Morgan then told the actresses that it was time to start getting angry about terrorism, especially ISIS sympathizers and stressed that there needs to be a “more concerted effort from the Muslim community” to crack down on extremism.

Later Morgan clashed with singer Charlotte Church on social media over how to prevent terrorism.

On Wednesday, Good Morning Britain guest Julia Hartley-Brewer told off Morgan live on air for arguing that Muslims in the U.K. aren’t taking the necessary steps to oppose terrorism.
