Halifax police say no threat after investigating suspicious package

Halifax Regional Police’s (HRP) Explosive Disposal Unit says there was no threat after investigating a suspicious package in the 5800 block of South Street Friday afternoon.

Officers were called to the area at 1:18 p.m. after someone noticed a package in the playground there.

“We can say it was called in by a complainant who had seen a man go into the playground and just leave an item there,” said Const. Dianne Penfound with HRP. “So she just thought it was just a little suspicious and called police which was the absolute right thing to do.”

Vehicle and pedestrian traffic had been shut down between Robie and Wellington streets for the time being. The street has since been reopened to traffic.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.
