Adele is known for pulling fans on stage during her concerts, but even she was surprised when a man proposed to his partner in front of the crowd at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium.

After seeing a fan crying in the audience as she sang her hit single Hello, the Grammy Award winner decided to invite the man on stage.

Wade Nicholson-Doyle brought his partner, Chris, to the show in Australia as a birthday present.

When Adele selected the pair from the crowd, Nicholson-Doyle got down on one knee and proposed. Chris said yes and a loud cheer erupted across the stadium.

Adele hugged the couple, saying, “I had no idea that was going to happen.”

“So that was unplanned, I had no idea there, Chris. I’m sorry,” she told the crowd afterwards.

Adele offered her congratulations to the pair saying, “Thank you for coming to the show, I hope you enjoy it. Thank you for doing that, that was emotional.”

Between singing her songs, she carried on with her usual crowd banter and at one point, she called out a security guard for telling people to sit down.

“Just before we go to the next song … excuse me sir, I know you work here, but can you please stop telling people to sit down?” Adele said.

She continued: “This is a music show, if people can’t see then they can stand up. And if you’re moaning about people dancing, then what the f**k did you come to a show for?”

“If I see one more person being told to sit down, I swear to God.”

Adele played to a crowd of 77,000 fans at the final concert. Her two Melbourne shows had the highest attendance of any event at Etihad Stadium since it opened in 2000.
