A man has been charged with hacking into Mission-born pop star Carly Rae Jepsen’s computer and stealing digital photos.
Christopher David Long appeared in B.C. Provincial Court in Abbotsford on Friday to face charges of theft of telecommunications service, unauthorized use of a computer, possession of property obtained by crime, mischief and personation with intent to gain advantage.
A bail hearing was held and he was released on his own recognizance.
In March, representatives of the 27-year-old singer received a tip and called the Vancouver police to investigate the unauthorized use of her computer and possible theft of nude photos. The thief was reportedly trying to sell the photos to media outlets.

Police said in July that they had a male suspect from “outside the city of Vancouver.”
Jepsen is currently on tour in Europe and no one from her management company could be reached for comment Monday. Earlier this year topless photos and a sex tape that purported to feature Jepsen were revealed as fakes.
Long’s next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 4.
Last week it was announced that Jepsen had been nominated for two Grammy Awards: song of the year and best solo pop performance.
Jepsen finished third on the fifth season of Canadian Idol and has since had two gold singles, two albums and two Juno Award nominations.
The five-times-platinum song “Call Me Maybe” has sold more than 10 million singles worldwide and climbed to No. 1 in more than 37 countries, including the U.S., where it spent nine weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100.
Jepsen will play a free concert for her hometown fans on Dec. 17 at the Clarke Foundation Theatre in Mission. Tickets will be given away at the Mission Leisure Centre (7650 Grand St.), arena entrance, on Dec. 11 beginning at 6 p.m., courtesy of Target Canada. Only 500 tickets will be distributed – one per person standing in the line.
